I Choose To Win Receives Violence-Prevention Grant from Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office for Mentorship Program

We are proud to announce that I Choose To Win has once again been selected as a 2025 grant awardee of a $20,000 violence-prevention grant from the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office. This award is part of a larger $600,000 investment in 26 local nonprofits doing the vital work of addressing the root causes and lasting impact of violence in our city.

The funds, distributed from the DA’s Forfeiture Fund, are drawn from assets seized in drug-related cases and intentionally reinvested in the very communities harmed by systemic and interpersonal violence.

“These are organizations that have been carefully vetted for their excellent work,” said District Attorney Larry Krasner during a moving ceremony at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where portraits of victims of gun violence stood in solemn tribute. With Philadelphia’s homicide rate now steadily declining, this investment represents a commitment to keeping that momentum going through community-rooted solutions.

Our Mission Continues Through LET HER!

The $20,000 grant awarded to I Choose To Win will directly support the launch of our transformative LET HER! Mentorship Program, a 24-week, trajectory-shifting initiative created specifically for Philadelphia’s at-risk BIPOC girls (ages 12–18) who are survivors or co-survivors of gun violence, often navigating intense grief due to the loss of a loved one.

LET HER! stands for Ladies Enduring Trauma, Healing Emotionally Right-now—and it is both a powerful call to action and a sacred space of healing. At its core, the program says: Let her feel. Let her grieve. Let her process. Let her heal.

Through this grant, LET HER! will:

  • Pair youth girls with BIPOC adult women mentors who have also survived the impact of gun violence, creating a deeply intentional “each one, reach one and teach one” structure.

  • Foster healing through shared experiences, where both mentor and mentee embark on new activities together, building connection and community from a place of mutual vulnerability and strength.

  • Offer two weekend retreats, group counseling sessions, and wellness-based workshops centered around walking/hiking, rowing, dance and choreography, creative arts, music, and journaling.

  • Integrate trauma-informed care and therapeutic challenges to encourage emotional expression, self-awareness, and restoration.

LET HER! provides more than mentorship—it offers our youth the gift of being seen, heard, and supported. It gives them the space and tools to move from pain and isolation toward hope, joy, and belonging in a community that is intentionally built to walk with them.

We are grateful to DA Larry Krasner, G. Lamar Stewart, and the Office of External Engagement and Government Affairs for this investment in our vision and for trusting us to walk alongside our city’s young survivors with compassion and purpose.

This grant not only fuels our work—it fuels healing. And for that, we are deeply thankful.

Because at I Choose To Win, we believe healing is possible. And we will continue to choose to win—for our youth, for our city, and for the future we are determined to help shape.
