Program Celebrates Healing Journey of Philadelphia’s Girls & Women Who Are Co-Survivors of Gun Violence
The LET HER! Mentorship Program by I Choose To Win is partially funded by the District Attorney’s Office Forfeiture Fund and HealthSpark Foundation
Philadelphia, PA — May 26, 2026 — It’s Gun Violence Awareness Month and I Choose to Win will celebrate the program completion of its inaugural cohort of girls and women in the LET HER! (Ladies Enduring Trauma Healing Emotionally Right-Now!) Mentorship Program on June 6, 2026 at the P4Hub. Intentionally designed for co-survivors of gun violence in Philadelphia, the participants in the LET HER! Program include adult mentors and youth mentees who lost loved ones due to gun violence. On Saturday, alongside family and friends, participants will enjoy a culminating celebration at P4 Hub in Germantown, honoring them, their families, program facilitators, grant funders, and community partners who helped bring this transformative experience to life.
“As a young co-survivor of gun violence myself, I’ve longed to see a program like LET HER! exist. In the spirit of Ghandi’s quote, I’m grateful our team got to be the change we wish to see in the world, by inviting program participants on a multi-week exposure, therapy and mentorship journey toward healing from a significant loss of a loved one gone too soon,” said I Choose To Win founder Melonie Butler.
LET HER! is an 8-week mentorship program that pairs young women ages 12-18 with culturally and identity-aligned mentors who are women and have also lost a loved one to gun violence (co-survivors). LET HER! engages them in weekly experiential activities that foster healing, strengthen relationships, and build community. Through 1:1 mentorship, group therapy sessions, and creative activities experienced together, participants are provided with a supportive space to process their trauma, cultivate confidence, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
The culminating celebration will recognize the growth and resilience demonstrated throughout the program while highlighting the collective impact created through mentorship and community support. The event will bring together participants, families, mentors, facilitators, supporters, and partners to reflect on the journey and celebrate the power of investing in girls and women impacted by trauma.
The celebration will feature a live DJ, various activities, a seated lunch, a keynote address and group healing activity from the program’s licensed counselor Ahyana King. Additionally, there will be an awards ceremony, a guided dance session, and more as attendees commemorate the completion of the inaugural cohort and the meaningful connections developed throughout the program.
